What is the best way to have a successful first meeting with a new customer and why is personal contact with customers so important?

From our many years of experience, we know that the cooperation with customers with whom we have a personal exchange is much more effective than when we only communicate in writing. Especially at the beginning of a cooperation it is important that the customer gets to know you as a person. This is the only way to build up trust and establish long-term customer loyalty. A video call with your customer creates the foundation for your collaboration, which you can make more efficient through further regular personal exchanges.  

Before you talk to a new customer for the first time, you should get to know him/her in depth. You will find the necessary information about your customer

  • in his/her personal profile
  • in the VPA customer file
  • on his/her website or via a short Google search

The more you know about a customer, the better you can convince him or her of your abilities. Preparing well for a meeting is therefore essential for a successful start together.

  • Choose a quiet place for the conversation so that you will not be disturbed.
  • Make sure you have a stable, fast Internet connection.
  • Use a virtual background in case you can’t work from your usual workplace.
  • Dress professionally and make sure you have a well-groomed appearance. This not only makes a good impression on the customer, but also helps you to present yourself as a professional.
  • Listen carefully to your customer, take notes and briefly summarize the most important points at the end of the conversation.
